There is a choice between with or without latex backing. The advantage with latex backing is the anti-slip effect, especially if it is placed as a loose runner. The other way around (without latex) the runner can be used on both sides. If placed on a spiral staircase in an authentic way, we recommend without a latex backing because it is then more flexible to process.
